Frequently asked questions

What is physie?

Physie (Physical Culture) is a unique blend of dance, fitness and strength, combining elements of ballet, contemporary movement, aerobic exercise and choreography. Classes focus on posture, flexibility, coordination, confidence and overall wellbeing — all set to music.

Who is physie suitable for?

Physie is suitable for girls and women of all ages and abilities — from beginners through to experienced dancers. Many students start with no prior dance experience at all.

Do students need previous dance experience?

No experience is required.
Our classes are designed to support beginners while still challenging more experienced students. Teachers provide progressions so everyone can learn and grow at their own pace.

What makes The Heights Physie different?

At The Heights Physie, we focus on:

  • Confidence and self-belief

  • Strength and fitness in a supportive environment

  • Technique and performance without pressure

  • Belonging, friendship and encouragement

We pride ourselves on creating a positive, welcoming culture where every student feels valued.

Is physie suitable for shy or nervous children?

Absolutely.
Physie is fantastic for building confidence in a supportive group environment. Many students begin shy and grow into confident performers over time, supported by their teachers and teammates.

Are competitions compulsory?

No. Competitions are optional.

Students can participate in physie purely for enjoyment, fitness and confidence. Those who choose to compete are supported every step of the way, with the focus on personal growth rather than results.

What happens at competitions?

Competitions involve performing a choreographed routine on stage alongside other clubs.
They are well-organised, supportive events where students gain performance experience, resilience and confidence.

How often do students train?

Most classes train once per week, with optional additional rehearsals offered for those participating in competitions or teams.

What should my child wear to class?

Students wear comfortable activewear to class.
Uniform details and footwear requirements are provided once enrolment is confirmed.

Is physie suitable for adults?

Yes! Physie is a fantastic option for adults looking for:

  • Strength and fitness

  • Flexibility and posture

  • A supportive, social environment

  • A creative outlet

Classes are welcoming, encouraging and adaptable for all fitness levels.

I haven’t danced before — can I still join?

Definitely. Many adult students start with no dance background at all.
Classes are designed to be inclusive and achievable, with progressions offered for different abilities.

Is it more fitness-based or dance-based?

Physie is a combination of both.
You’ll work on strength, cardio, flexibility and coordination, alongside choreography and musicality.

When do enrolments open?

Enrolments open prior to the start of the new season.
You can register your interest at any time to receive updates about 2026 enrolments.

Can we trial a class before enrolling?
